The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) learned in November that Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) funds will be used to increase salaries for correctional officers working at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center (MPRSC) in Saluda.
The salary increase reflects a 16% increase for jail employees. CARES funds will likely be available for reimbursement related to the financial impact COVID-19 has had on the operation of the facility and costs of safeguards made to protect jail personnel and inmates from the virus.
Hartfield supervisor member and “jail board” rep for the county John Koontz cautioned MCBS that when MPRSC starting salaries go from $33,000 to $39,000 it could impact hiring efforts…
