Because area post offices will be closed on Thanksgiving day, next week’s Southside Sentinel will appear a day early — on Wednesday, Nov. 25 — and deadlines will be on Monday, Nov. 23. The deadline for display ads is 10 a.m. and the deadline for classified ads and news is noon on Monday.
The Sentinel office will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Santa letters to be published
The Southside Sentinel will again publish “Letters to Santa” from local children in its special “Christmas Greetings” section in the Thursday, Dec. 24 issue.
This year — since some schools are in person, some are working in a hybrid situation and some are fully virtual — the Sentinel requests that children write and send in their individual letters to Santa directly to the Sentinel, instead of depending on the teachers and schools to help organize this effort.
Parents are urged to encourage their children to write a letter to Santa and submit it on time. The Sentinel looks forward to sharing all the wishes with Santa this year.
Letters must be emailed, faxed or delivered to the Sentinel office’s foyer dropbox no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, in order to appear in the special section.
Letters should include the child’s first and last name, age, and community of residence. Parents are asked to make certain the letters are legible. The letters should be short and concise, so Santa can read them quickly.
Include a phone number in case Santa has questions. The phone number won’t be published.
Email “Letters to Santa” to Editor@SSentinel.com; fax to 804-758-5896; mail to Southside Sentinel, P.O. Box 549, Urbanna, VA 23175; or bring by the Sentinel office at 276 Virginia St. in Urbanna. In light of the pandemic, emailing might be the ideal way to submit Santa letters.
