Middlesex won’t join Scenic Rivers

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted 3-2 Wednesday, Nov. 4, to not endorse a study by Virginia’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) considering the Rappahannock River for the Virginia Scenic Rivers program.

DCR officials says the program is designed to identify, designate and help protect rivers and streams that possess outstanding scenic, recreational, historic and natural characteristics of statewide significance for future generations.

At the November meeting, Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission Executive Director Lewis (Lewie) Lawrence said supervisors need to “think through the pros and cons” of Scenic Rivers status…
