With less than two weeks into hybrid in-school instruction, the Middlesex County Public School (MCPS) system is facing its first case of COVID-19 in the schools.
MCPS superintendent Dr. Peter Gretz informed the school community via email Sunday at 6:22 p.m. that a Middlesex Elementary School (MES) staff member tested positive with COVID-19 and five students and two staff members have been quarantined.
“Over the weekend we (MCPS) were informed that one MES staff member tested positive for COVID-19,” said Dr. Gretz. “In an abundance of caution, the classroom in which this individual works will be quarantined while we wait for the Three Rivers Health District to complete contact tracing and provide further instruction.
“The quarantine will impact two adults and five students. The individual (with COVID-19) has not been in the school building since Tuesday,” he said. “I want to keep you as informed as possible so we are able to navigate this situation in the safest, healthiest, and most efficient way possible,” he said.
