Don’t let pandemic keep you cooped up; volunteer as a dog walker

Everyone is all smiles as Joey, the Middlesex County dog badly injured earlier this year after being hit by a car, leaves last week with his new happy family — the Tacketts of Yorktown. Joey recovered after the community rallied to pay his medical expenses. (Contributed)

As October draws to an end and the leaves change to amber and crimson it is time to prepare for November and the colder days to come. Joey, our pup who had major spinal surgery back in late August, is sending a huge thank you to all the generous Middlesex folks who donated to make it possible for him to spend those cold days cuddled up with his new family in front of the fire.

The family is “over the moon” happy to have such a great pup and Joey is even happier to be a true family member.

However, Joey is not alone in needing Middlesex Pet Friends for Life (MPFL) help with a major health issue. The shelter recently took in a lovely female hound with a mammary tumor. Since she was diagnosed with heartworms and was being treated for that, the tumor removal was delayed.

Unfortunately, the tumor began to grow and emergency surgery was deemed necessary. MPFL took her to Veterinary Referral Critical Care (VRCC) in Richmond for surgery…

MPFL is a 501c3, charitable, all volunteer organization. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to: P.O. Box 145, Saluda, VA 23149 or made online with PayPal at http://middlesexpetfriends.wordpress.com/ click on donate. You can also designate MPFL as your charity while shopping on Amazon Smile.
