Squad improves to 4-2 for the season

The Middlesex junior girls softball team defeated Mathews 4-1 on Oct. 22 in Mathews to improve its season record to 4-2.

Middlesex jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kayleigh Moye drew a walk to lead off the game. Libby Oliver, Carly Jessie and Alyssa Mitchem followed with three consecutive singles to score Moye. Mathews was held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.

Middlesex struck again in the second inning with a lead off single by Kaitlyn Barney, with walks by Cheyenne Musick and Hannah Lambert, followed by an RBI single by Moye to take a 2-0 lead. 

Solid pitching and defense by both teams would eliminate any scoring opportunities until the top of the fifth…
