Dr. Harriet Libby Roane, 78, of Gloucester went to heaven on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020.
Harriet was born in Summit, N.J., on Feb. 15, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Walter S. Libby Jr. and late Kathryn G. Libby.
She lived in Urbanna and graduated from Middlesex High School in 1960. She also received several college degrees over the years.
She was a devoted, loving wife to Howard Roane for 60 years and had three daughters.
Throughout Harriet’s life she loved talking and helping people. She was a member of Urbanna Baptist Church. She was a profound Christian and recently graduated with a certificate of ordination of Theology and a doctoral degree in Ministry and Biblical Counseling.
She was an associate pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church for a few years. Before that she was a nurse’s aide for many years. She enjoyed singing, painting portraits and landscapes as a hobby.
Survivors include her husband, Howard W. Roane; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah R. Epperley and Michael A. Epperley of Smithfield; daughter and son-in-law, Daphne Melvin and David Melvin of Gloucester; daughter, Karen W. Roane of Gloucester; brother and sister-in-law, Walter S. Libby III and Elizabeth Libby of Williamsburg; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Urbanna Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, make memorials to Urbanna Baptist Church WMU for Missions.
