Middlesex residents gather in rallies and parades for Democratic and Republican candidates

A sign featuring Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and other Democratic candidates is the center of attention Sunday during a campaign rally in Saluda for Qasim Rashid, far right, who is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives’ 1st District, which includes all of Middlesex County. Rashid is joined by Event Host Lauren Wood, far left, and Middlesex County Democratic Committee Chairman Hallie Holmes. Rashid shared detailed plans and ideas for the district and answered citizen questions from the 50 attendees about the pandemic, economy and health care. Information is available about the candidate at RashidForVA.com and locally at MiddlesexVADemocrats.org. Holmes thanked the Middlesex citizens in attendance and Christchurch School for donating the use of chairs for a successful event on the grounds of the historic Middlesex County Courthouse.  (Contributed)

Hundreds of boaters turned out on Sept. 26 for an Urbanna Creek-Rappahannock River parade to support President Donald Trump — including this one that appears to be piloted by someone costumed as the 45th president. The boat is adorned with more than a dozen pro-Trump flags. One participant estimated that more than 300 boats were in the parade, which also sailed to Carter’s Creek in Lancaster County. Richmonder Lori Close coordinated the event. For information, visit “Rappahannock Trump Supporters” on Facebook. Close’s group conducted a similar Urbanna boat parade in June in support of President Trump’s re-election efforts. It followed a similar format. Pro-Trump boaters also sailed en masse on the Piankatank River in the Deltaville area on Sept. 5. The Trump re-election campaign spearheaded similar Trump flotillas across the country.
