Authorities discovered a body in a home that burned in Water View on Monday. The remains of the deceased man were sent to the state medical examiner’s office to confirm identification.
Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. R.T. Hirtz said he was dispatched to Water View Road (Route 640) about 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 after a passerby reported seeing a home ablaze near the Jamaica Convenience Center. The dwelling was fully engulfed in flames by the time it was reported, said Cpl. Hirtz. The house’s occupant lived alone, he said.
A Virginia State Police arson investigator was called to the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined.
Responding to the blaze were firefighters from the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, and the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, which is located in Urbanna.
