The Urbanna Town Council is considering ways to open the Taber Park playground for limited use. This would require an employee be at the playground when it’s open to monitor activity to assure compliance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines, and to sanitize the equipment.
Although the playground is closed due to COVID-19, children have climbed the fence to use the equipment, said Mayor Diane Gravatt, adding that signs should be installed indicating that tell those using the equipment do so at their own risk. Councilors George DeVries and Bill Smith agreed.
The CDC permits using parks and trails safely while following precautions, Town Administrator Holly Gailey told council at its Sept. 24 meeting. The agency recommends avoiding crowded places.
The problem is how to meet guidelines for maintaining social distance, wearing masks and sanitizing. “You can’t be on the merry-go-round and social distance…”
