High school athletics can return as soon as December.
The Virginia High School League’s executive committee voted unanimously, 33-0, last Thursday to approve the “Championships + 1” schedule.
The condensed season plan will allow for each sport to play 60% of their normal schedules and allow for region and state championships.
“We have received invaluable input from our school communities, parents, and students who say the physical and mental health benefits of getting our students back to a level of participation is extremely important,” said VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun. “The Championships + 1 schedule will provide sports in all three seasons.
The plan allows for opening the winter season on Dec. 7 for basketball practice with other winter sports…
