Urbanna revenue staying strong

Tax collections rise, even amid COVID-19 woes

Some Urbanna tax revenues are up, despite the economic uncertainty caused by COVID-19 restrictions.

At the Sept. 10 Urbanna Town Council meeting, Councilor Bill Goldsmith, the finance committee chairman, reported that Urbanna’s meals tax revenue and the water fund revenue are up for fiscal year 2019-2020, which ended June 30.

Goldsmith said that restaurants have been able to adjust to COVID-19 restrictions with take-out foods, said Goldsmith. “Their gross sales are up and that’s a good sign.” Regarding water fund revenue, he speculated that more people are staying in town and they are using more water…
