Possible plan: In-person, twice a week classes

Middlesex school officials consider using tech center for some students

Due to COVID-19, Middlesex High School (MHS) students started classes this week using “virtual” instruction. A few MHS students, however, may be attending hybrid in-person classes through Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center at New Kent Courthouse.

Jim Goforth, Middlesex County Public School’s (MCPS) school board representative on the center’s board of directors, reported at a special called meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, that the school is considering a “watered down hybrid” opening plan starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, allowing one day of in-person classes a week for student instruction.

The technical center  provides academic and technical training in career preparation for health science, engineering and technology. The program offers seven instructional classes, including:

  • Coding and Advanced Programming
  • Criminal Justice
  • Culinary Arts
  • Diesel Technology
  • Engineering Technology
  • Pre-practical Nursing
  • Small Engine Technology
