The Middlesex County Economic Development Authority (EDA) announced last week the award of three grants to Middlesex County small businesses to aid in overcoming the economic hardship created by the governor’s stay-at-home executive order required to address the spread of the coronavirus in Middlesex County.
Grant recipients to date include:
• Emily Chowning, sole proprietor of Nimcock Gallery in Urbanna, was awarded $1,443.09. The gallery has been open for 50 years and offers custom framing, artwork, vintage furniture and antiques.
• A Mother’s Love Daycare is a state-certified daycare in Wake. The EDA awarded Cynthia Beverley, owner, a $5,000 grant. Beverley made a difficult decision to remain open despite the risks to her family, however, in the end, she felt it her duty to provide daycare services to those families of essential workers and children in the Social Services program.
• Shear Delight Owner Jan Dunlevy received $3,023.55 to cover utility and rent expenses due to the loss of revenue when she was required to close her beauty salon for three months.
