
Locust Hill pro fires three straight rounds in the 60s competing against 220 opponents

Josh Speight of Locust Hill birdied his final hole to secure a one-stroke victory at the 99th Maryland State Golf Association’s Maryland Open Championship on Aug. 26.
Speight competed against 220 players on Aug. 24-26 at the Country Club of Woodmore in Mitchellville, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C., and at the Cannon Club.
It was the first time in nearly a decade, a Middle Atlantic PGA professional claimed the title of Maryland Open Champion. Speight fired three straight rounds in the 60s (67-69-68) for a 204 total and posted 11-under par to earn a one-stroke victory over runner-up and fellow MAPGA member, Larkin Gross of Center Cross in Essex County.
Speight’s consistent play throughout the week and down the stretch during the final round was key to his win. After a bogey-free front nine in the final round that included two birdies at holes three and eight, Speight made just his second bogey…
