Margaret Smith Feil, a 21-years resident of Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020.
She is survived by her sons, John Fletcher Smith IV (Eileen) and Dana Sheffield Smith, both of Urbanna. She also is survived by her step sons, Peter Feil (Doris) of Pennsylvania and Fred Feil (Martha) of South Carolina. She will also be greatly missed by her grandsons, “J” Smith (Shannon) of Maryland, Lee Powell Smith (Lauren) of Fredericksburg, and Talbott Sheffield Smith of Richmond; along with her three granddaughters, Ruth, Addie and Verity. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Fletcher Smith, in 1972; and her second husband, Delmar A. Feil in 2009.
She was born in Dinwiddie County, 1921, and grew up as Margaret Lee Sheffield. She spent the majority of her life in Petersburg as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a dedicated artist, a member of The Petersburg Area Art League and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Once she moved to R-WC in 1999, she became an active participant of The Rappahannock Art League Center in Kilmarnock.
Margaret had many artistic talents that she used in oil painting, acrylic painting, encaustic painting, collage and watercolor. Her works have been exhibited in many galleries, including in an international competition conducted in New York City and a show hosted by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, for Virginia artists. Her creativity will be missed by family and many friends.
