Urbanna to install security cameras

Officials hope to deter incidents of vandalism

Vandalism has motivated the Urbanna Town Council to purchase video surveillance cameras to catch those responsible.

At its July 23 work session meeting, council voted to position cameras at Taber Park where playground equipment, including the swings, has been vandalized recently.

New playground equipment was delivered recently and will be installed by the selling company. The total cost of the improvements is about $15,000 and council wants to protect the town’s investment.

Plants on Virginia Street were recently “stomped,” said Mayor Diane Gravatt. She also said signs erected in Urbanna by the county stating “We ask that you mask” were slashed and destroyed. “We need to protect ourselves a little bit,” said Gravatt, who noted…
