Hearing set to discuss creating Saluda Historic District

The Saluda branch of the Bank of Middlesex opened in October 1911 and was located on Main Street in Saluda. The building was later replaced with the modern BB&T bank building in Saluda today. The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) is considering making a part of the village of Saluda a state historic landmark district. The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) will conduct a virtual public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10 to allow public comment for establishing a Saluda Historic District.

DHR officials had scheduled a public hearing for Saluda residents in May but due to the coronavirus pandemic the hearing was delayed until August. Those wanting to participate in the meeting on Aug. 10 can get details here. 

The decision to make Saluda a historic district and listed on the Virginia Landmarks (VLR) and the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is decided by the Board of Historic Resources and State Review Board in Richmond. The boards are expected to meet…
