Last Sunday our church opened for worship for the first time in four months. It was a day to celebrate. But it was also a little weird. I couldn’t get used to the masks veiling the faces of our members. And the mask I wore tickled my nose.
Every day, we are warned of the need to wear these unsightly and uncomfortable face coverings to ensure safety and defeat the virus. That seems right to many, who are willing to comply with the mask mandate imposed by governments or businesses or churches. But others chafe at the thought, some because wearing a mask seems like an unjustified intrusion on their personal rights as American citizens.Â
