Middlesex County sewer system plan advances

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) plans to build a “forced main” from Saluda to Topping and Deltaville that will collect wastewater and pump it to Yorktown for treatment.   

This will be a forced main so connecting to it can only be done at designated locations that include Hartfield, Deltaville, Topping  and Locust Hill, explained HRSD Project Manager Jeremiah Burford at the July 7 meeting of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors. Individual systems cannot connect directly to the forced main. Only major collection systems can connect to the forced main.

The forced main will take the Urbanna and Saluda treatment plants off line and end discharging of treated wastewater into Urbanna Creek. 

Design will take about 12 months and construction will begin in July 2022 with an estimated completion date of July 2024.
