MC supervisor reports citizen concerned about exploding targets’ noise, safety near subdivision

At the June 2 Middlesex County Board of Supervisors meeting, Saluda District Supervisor Pete Mansfield introduced a citizen’s complaint that Tannerite explosive targets were being used at a private gun range near an Urbanna subdivision.
Mansfield requested that the board authorize county personnel to study whether or not Tannerite targets can be prohibited through the county’s noise or zoning ordinances.
Tannerite is a brand of “binary explosive” target used with high velocity bullets in long-range (1,000-feet) firearm practice. Bullets and shells from regular rifles and shotguns will not explode the target, said Mansfield.
He also said that the populated area outside of Urbanna is not a good location for the use of Tannerite explosive…
