Oyster Fest contestants promote animal shelter

Oyster Festival Queen contestant Madeline Hurd and her Little Miss Spat contestant, Madison Cole, encourage citizens to adopt and help support animals awaiting adoption at the Middlesex Animal Shelter.

The contestants are excited to introduce their project, “Middlesex Homeward Bound,” which is designed to assist Middlesex’s Pet Friends for Life with three main components: (1) to educate citizens about the purpose of the animal shelter and promote pet adoption; (2) to help feed, train, walk and love the dogs currently in the shelter; and (3) to organize animal food and toy drives and raise funds for the animal shelter facility so that the animals receive appropriate accommodations, food and health care.

The first animal food drive is scheduled for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at Hurd’s Hardware store in Deltaville. The contestants ask that people come to donate dog and cat food, treats and toys.
