The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office was among those that partnered with the Healthy Harvest Food Bank and the Middlesex Family YMCA in helping to combat food shortages in Middlesex County due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 1,700 pounds of food and $843 in donations were collected on April 29 at the Middlesex YMCA in Hartfield.

The sheriff’s office saw the food drive as another way to help the community, said MCSO Lt. Casey Mewborn. “We at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office are a family and we love to challenge each other,” said Lt. Mewborn. “So I asked the two uniform patrol sergeants to see which squad, Alpha or Bravo, could gather more food for this event. I as well went out and tried to match their collection, the response was incredible! The office came together quickly in just a few days to get a large amount of food. I only wish they had a scale to see who had more, but it’s clear the winner was Middlesex.” Alpha squad is supervised by Sgt. Clint Lawson. Bravo Squad is supervised by Sgt. James Karber.
