Middlesex Little League began in 50s

Twenty-five years ago, one of the main driving forces behind development of the Middlesex County Sports Complex was to create a permanent site for Middlesex County Little League teams to play and practice.    

The league was founded in 1958 and Deltaville Ballpark in Deltaville provided a quality facility for teams to play, but most of the teams practiced on poorly maintained sandlot fields throughout the county. The league was composed of four all-white boy teams — Deltaville, Urbanna, Syringa and Church View.      

When the sports complex opened in 1995, the league had integrated, expanded boys teams and had introduced girls softball. With this expansion the need for a central practice and game facility was paramount. Games were being played all over the county on sub-par playing fields.
