Mask ordinance meeting rescheduled

by Larry Chowning –

At a special called meeting Wednesday, the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors tabled action on an emergency ordinance requiring citizens of Middlesex to wear mask in public during this coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting was rescheduled until 5 p.m. tomorrow night, Thursday, April 30. The matter was tabled because the county’s Zoom participant meeting capacity is 100 people and there were 114 online visiting the meeting. Fourteen people were unable to join in the meeting, including Harmony Village Supervisor Reggie Williams, who ended up driving to Saluda to participate.

County Attorney Heather Lewis recommended that the emergency meeting be postponed until the county’s “software can be upgraded to allow all citizens to be able to participate.”

The county’s I.T. director, Kevin Gentry, said it could be done in time for tomorrow’s 5 p.m. meeting.

The emergency meeting Thursday will be followed by the annual budget public hearing meeting at 7 p.m. The public may participate and access either meeting by the following Electronic Zoom Meeting ID: 889-4082-7308 with the password 7584330.
