James Thomas Holmes

James Thomas Holmes, 73, of Urbanna was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army as an MP. Before and after his service, he worked numerous jobs related to construction, heavy equipment operator and as a driver. He could operate and perform maintenance on just about anything from two to 18 wheels. He will be remembered as a kind and giving soul who was always helping others with a smile.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Holmes; his son, Jamie (Elrica) Holmes; two daughters, Angela (Michael) Epps and Amanda (Anthony) Billups; nine grandchildren, Marlon “Winnie” Parker, Malcolm Holmes, Marquez Holmes, Michael Epps, JaKayla and JaMorjae Holmes, Anaiya, Alanna and Anthony Billups; and one great-grandson, Carter Holmes. He also leaves behind two sisters, Sarah (Robert) Berry and Etta (William) Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Lillie (Levi) Braxton; and sisters-in-law, Corrine (Donald) Pearson, Avis Dugas and Gloria W. Holmes.

Viewing is set for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Immanuel Baptist Church, which is located at 317 Town Bridge Road in Saluda. A private graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Saluda.

Arrangements are by Forrest Brothers Funeral Home.
