Urbanna duo rescue floundering osprey

With all the struggles and fears associated with the coronavirus crisis, two Urbanna residents put aside those fears for the moment to rescue a desperate osprey floundering in Urbanna Creek.

On Wednesday, April 8, Randy and Betty Coulson, who live on the creek near the bridge, spotted an osprey struggling in the water under the bridge.

The Coulsons recognized the bird as one they have known for many years as the bird and its mate return regularly to nest on the bridge. They had named the osprey “King.”

“With binoculars we could see that it was the male osprey from the nest under the bridge,” said Randy. “He was obviously in severe distress…
