UBC wedding goes on despite need for face masks, social distancing

Teresita (Tess) Garchitorena from the Philippines came to America recently to visit her 91-year-old mother in Hampton and found true love in Forrest Conner of Urbanna.

The couple was married on Saturday by the Rev. Bruce Powers under the carport at Urbanna Baptist Church as friends and relatives kept a social distance by staying in their cars or standing six feet apart from one another.

“It was love at first sight for both of us,” said Forrest, 72, and a retired automobile body repairman who lives on Urbanna Road.

“I’m widowed and Tess was a widow too. Her niece decided she was going to find her a friend so she put her name and photo on the POF.com dating website and when I saw her photo I called her,” said Forrest.

“It did not matter to us they were sitting in their cars or standing 15-feet away,” he said. “We both love one another and that’s all that matters.”
