It’s pleasing now recalling local baseball’s bygone days

In the summer of 1991, the Southside Sentinel ran a three-part series on “The Boys of Summer”  — the semi-pro baseball teams in Middlesex County during the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s. With no high school spring sports being conducted now due to the coronavirus outbreak, this series will run over the next three weeks on the Sentinel sports page.

There is hardly anyone around who can remember when the community of  Deltaville did not have a baseball team.

Even when the town was known as Sandy Bottom before the turn of the 20th century, there was a ball field  around for the local boys.
