Center Cross Church of God announces drive-in 9 and 11 a.m. Easter services

Many church services have been canceled as a precaution necessitated by the coronavirus. However, the Rev. Jake Affeldt, pastor of Center Cross Church of God in Essex County, is using a novel approach to keep his church viable. To assure that he is providing a safe environment for everyone, and to be in compliance with the governor’s order, he met with Sheriff Walter “Arnie” Holmes to discuss his plans and was given permission from Sheriff Holmes to conduct the event — with very strict guidelines in place.

At 9 and 11 a.m. on Easter, this Sunday, April 12, everyone is welcome to worship in their cars during a special drive-in service at the church at 141 Byrds Bridge Road in Center Cross.

Pastor Jake will be using a small FM transmitter to beam the worship and message to radios in cars and trucks. He will preach from a stage built outside of the church and participants will be able to maintain social distancing by staying in their vehicles.

Everyone planning to attend please note: No one will be allowed to get out of his or her vehicle, the church will be locked up and restrooms will be unavailable. Make plans accordingly, so everyone can enjoy the service.

Center Cross Church is planning to offer its drive-in worship each Sunday following Easter at 11 a.m. until the current COVID-19 has lifted. At 7 p.m. Wednesdays, you can tune in on Center Cross’ Facebook page to catch live weekly teachings by Pastor Jake and his wife, Brittany Affeldt.
