The Cryer Center is now closed for day-to-day operations, except for the Food Pantry. The office, Clothing Closet and Donation Center will no longer be open to the public until the current health concerns are overcome.
Many of its volunteers and clients are senior citizens and/or have personal health concerns or family members with concerns. It is important to protect everyone from continued person-to-person contact.
Center reps have put in place procedures to try and mitigate the effect of these actions on our most vulnerable neighbors.
First: if you have an emergency need for services, call 804-758-2044 and leave a message. Center reps will be monitoring their message system from their homes and will respond as soon as possible.
Second: The Food Pantry will operate on its usual schedule (see below), but will have new procedures. Clients will no longer enter any of the facilities listed below. All food for delivery will be pre-packed by our volunteers for pickup and a drive-through system will be put in place. It will not be necessary for any clients to exit their car. Families will drive up, check-in, have their food loaded, and then exit The Cryer Center.
Food Pantry schedule:
- First Tuesday—9-11 a.m. at Union Shiloh Baptist Church.
- First Saturday—9-11 a.m. at Clarksbury United Methodist Church.
- Second Tuesday—10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Cryer Center.
- Second Tuesday—3-5 p.m. at Urbanna Baptist Church.
- Fourth Tuesday—10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Cryer Center.
Habitat for Humanity, which operates out of the Cryer Center, will also continue to monitor its phone system. Leave a message and officials will return your call as soon as possible.
“Thank you for working with us during this period of concern for all and please follow all safety precautions to keep yourself and your family safe and healthy,” said a center spokesman.
