In her first year of competing, Mide, a sophomore, won the VISAA State Championship with her shot put of 35’5.5”. She also earned first team VISAA All-State honors. At the League of Independent Schools (LIS) meet, her throw of 37’09” set the LIS record.

Other SMS athletes who placed in the state championships include: junior Amaya Connor, 3rd in long jump and 5th in triple jump; LaShawntae Robinson, 7th in triple jump; sophomore Layke Jones, 6th in shot put; and senior Zoe Truxon, 8th in 55-meter dash.

“I’m so proud of our girls’ accomplishments,” said SMS athletic director Cynthia Walker. “We not only competed with these much larger schools, but showed we can challenge for state championships across the board. This was a great day for St. Margaret’s athletics and showcased the talent and drive within our students.”
