It is easy to fall prey to merely living through winter, spring, summer and fall in an endless cycle of time. The church calendar takes Christians through Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity in an annual cycle pointing backwards to God’s saving acts and forward to their ultimate fulfillment at the Second Coming of Jesus. In the church, calendar time is set apart as holy or sanctified and worship transforms that time into experiencing God’s saving work.
On February 26, Ash Wednesday starts a 40-day period (not counting Sundays) called Lent. Jesus told Christians to “repent and believe.”
A mid-week, Wednesday worship service will be held every week at 5:30 p.m., followed by a soup, bread and fellowship meal at All Saints Anglican Church across the street from the Middlesex Courthouse during Lent, February 26, through April 8, in preparation for Easter Sunday on April 12. No reservations are needed; all are invited to come with an open heart.
