The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors agreed on February 4 to send a resolution to Congressman Rob Wittman requesting that the U.S. Postal Service continue operation of Church View Post Office and to provide a proper post office facility.
Board chair and Jamaica District supervisor Wayne Jessie informed the board the lease on the Church View Post Office property runs out in March and there is concern it may not be renewed.
The U.S. Postal Service owns the trailer that is being used as the Church View Post Office. The land, however, is owned by a private citizen and is being leased.
The board agreed to draft a resolution to support continuation of a post office in the Church View area. “If the post office closes, it will create a very serious problem in the upper end of the county,” said Jessie. “We have a lot of elderly people who depend on that post office for stamps and mail.
