During a Middlesex County Board of Supervisors budget work session Tuesday, February 4, county officials discussed having a real estate reassessment start this summer with new assessment values going into effect in the 2021-22 (FY22) budget year.
County administrator Matt Walker said the cost of hiring a firm to reassess county properties could cost as much as $200,000 “and maybe more.” The last reassessment five years ago cost the county $190,000, he noted.
Virginia Code requires Middlesex County to conduct a real estate reassessment at least once every six years, said Walker. If the board goes with the FY22, the last reassessment would have been five years ago.
