Deltaville Maritime Museum –
Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park will open its 2020 Turner Lecture Series with a presentation this Sunday, January 12, at 2 p.m. Whit Perry, Plimoth Plantation’s Director of Maritime Preservation and Operations, will give an illustrated and hands-on presentation about the history and restoration of “Mayflower II.” Refreshments will be served. RSVP please.
Mayflower II is a reproduction of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World in 1620. It was built in England in 1957 and then sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and given to America as a gift of appreciation for our help and cooperation in WWII. The Mayflower II restoration, under the curatorship of Plimoth Plantation, will be completed in time for the various 400th anniversary celebrations and re-enactments planned around the Mayflower’s original 1620 voyage and the founding of the Plymouth colony.
The lecture will be held in the maritime park’s Events Pavilion at 287 Jackson Creek Road in Deltaville. The lecture begins promptly at 2 p.m. with a question-and-answer time and meet-and-greet afterwards. Refreshments will be served. There is no admission fee, but donations to the Turner Education Fund are both needed and encouraged to ensure the continuity of the lecture series. The suggested donation is $10.
