Three members of the Middlesex High School volleyball team recently received All-State honors.
Laura Walton was named first team All-State. Walton, a junior, also was chosen Tidewater District Player of the Year and the Region A Player of the Year. Walton ended the 2019 season with 114 aces, 200 kills, 396 assists and 138 digs.
Named second team All-State were juniors Airiana Beverley and Elizabeth Ketner.
Beverley also was chosen first team All-District and first team All-Region. Beverley recorded 258 kills and 33 blocks. With another season to play, Beverley is 95 kills away from breaking the MHS kill record. (A kill is a hit that is not returned.)
Ketner was earlier named Tidewater District and Region A Libero of the Year. She contributed 286 digs and 61 serving aces.
For the first time in 25 years the Middlesex Lady Chargers volleyball team (21-3) was the regular season Tidewater District champion. The Lady Chargers also won the Tidewater District Tournament, and placed second to Rappahannock in the Region A Tournament.
Middlesex was eliminated in the opening round of the Group 1A State Tournament to eventual state runner-up Riverheads. Auburn defeated Riverheads for the state championship.
