The Middlesex Lady Chargers varsity basketball team defeated Northumberland and lost to King William in recent action.

On December 12 the Lady Chargers (3-2) left Northumberland with a 53-43 victory. While the game was competitive, the Middlesex lead was between 5 and 10 points most of the contest.

“We are coming together and creating good team chemistry,” said Lady Charger head coach Neil Wake. “We will be our greatest obstacle this season. We can dream big and do good things, or we can doubt ourselves and struggle when we don’t have to.”

The Lady Chargers hosted a scrappy King William team on December 10 in a battle to the buzzer with the Lady Cavaliers coming out on top 53-46.

King William led all the way and held a 10-point lead at the half. Middlesex battled back and knotted the score at 46-46 with 90 seconds left in the game.

From there, King William went up by 3 points, while the Lady Chargers faltered at the foul line going zero for four down the stretch. King William hit a last second field goal that gave them the 7-point winning margin.

“I have a veteran team and that should pay large dividends this season,” said Coach Wake. “I fall more in love with this team every day.”

Middlesex will host Mathews on Friday, December 20, in its final game before the holiday break. The JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7 p.m.
