Committee Chair –Â
As I sit down to write, it occurs to me that a number of things are coming to an end. Most obviously, 2019, and I do hope that it has been a good year for everyone. It certainly has been for the Middlesex Library and, on a personal note, as I come to the end of my time on the Library Board (and this past year as chair of the fundraising effort) it has been simply a terrific year. I can’t tell you what a pleasure it has been for me to be on the board, and although asking people for money is not the most fun imaginable, in fact the response has been so overwhelmingly great that it has been a pleasure.
As the year comes to an end, I feel constrained to remind everyone that if you have not already made a contribution, and are thinking about your tax situation for 2019, now would be a good time to add the library to your holiday gift list. At the same time, I have to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who has already given to the library. And going personal again, I have to say that the opportunity to work with the terrific people whom I have gotten to know on the board has been a delight. And, as I know everyone reading realizes, we have the most fabulous staff and volunteers imaginable. Carrie, please forgive me for attempting to make a perfectly terrible play on words, but as our own Santa(os), the gifts that you have pulled out of your great big pack have been amazing. You and the elves that you have working with you have made our library something truly special.
So, as the year draws to a close and we think about people and things that are special, do keep the Middlesex Library in mind. This may not be the last time that I write, but I promise that it is the last time I will ask you to think financially. Thanks to you, the library will enter the New Year on a sound footing, and be able to continue, and even expand, the services and programs that the library provides.
Warmest best wishes for the holidays and may 2020 bring only good things to everyone.
