Dockside Inn, a longtime motel and lodging facility in Deltaville, has reopened with new ownership and new management.

Shawn Adair and Randy Snider of Powhatan met and became friends while in middle school. They grew up to become business partners and founded Timbercreek Building and Design. They build new homes but also buy and refurbish older homes and commercial properties for rentals, mostly in the Richmond area.

A while back, Adair was invited by a realtor friend from Richmond to stay at his cottage on Stingray Point. “We were there just to hangout and visit,” said Adair. “I passed by Dockside Inn and mentioned to my friend that place needs some work. He said he thought it was for sale and we went from there.”

The partners purchased the property and have completely renovated all the rooms, office and grounds. “My partner and I looked at it and felt it was an amenity to the Deltaville area that had been around for a long time and was very much needed,” said Adair.

“Obviously, it had been a successful business,” he said. “It is like a broken record when someone comes up to me to talk about Dockside. ‘I used to stay at Dockside. That was 30 years ago,’ they’d say.”

Adair and Snider have hired Chris Sovine as office manager. “We have hired all local people who know this community,” said Sovine. “We have people who are in touch with Deltaville and will know what is going on and where things are in town when people ask.”

She said customers can book a room online or they can call 804-776-1021. The desk is manned 24 hours a day.

The old swimming pool has been removed but Adair said he plans to work something out with the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) so customers can have access to the DCA pool, tennis courts and playground.

“People tell me that Dockside used to be a place where the same people came each year to spend a weekend or week in Deltaville,” said Adair. “They came with family and friends. They played music and had fun times together. We want to get back to that.”

Dockside Inn is a pet-friendly facility, said Sovine. “Everyone who works here has pets and we encourage people to bring their pets.”

There are two styles of rooms. “Double Queen” rooms come with two large beds. “King Rooms” come with one large bed. There is one room on the first floor designed specifically for the handicapped.
