The Middlesex High School Chargers wrestling team kicked off its regular season last Saturday with a third place team finish in the Caroline Invitational.
MHS had eight wrestlers to medal in the meet. Caroline won the team competition with 215 points; Patrick Henry was second with 192 points; Middlesex, third, 164 points; Petersburg, fourth, 82; Chancellor, fifth, 79; Monacan, sixth, 33; and Lee Davis, seventh, 29.
All-State performers Brock Parrish, Parker Smith and Cole Ruark registered first place finishes. Parrish won the 113-pound weight class, Smith won the 126-pound class, and Ruark won the 170-pound class.
Thomas Wilson placed third in the 120-pound class; Chris Stokes, third, 152-pound division; Wyatt Brown, third, 160-pound class; Owen Miller, third, 195-pound class; and Skyer Mason, third, 220-pound division.
Lakin Millen, Brayden Deel and Andrew Gynn all finished in fourth place in their weight classes and received honorable mention honors. Millen competed in the 113-pound weight class; Brayden Deel, 182-pound class; and Gynn, 285-pound class.
Nathan Campbell and Eric Graulich each won a match—Campbell in the 120-pound class; Graulich in the 138-pound class.
“Our MHS grapplers did an outstanding job to start the season out with a third place team finish at the Caroline tournament,” said head coach Joel Anderson. “I want to give a special thanks to coaches Billy Jarvis, Wayne Mount, and Brian Graulich for their outstanding help with the wrestlers during the tournament.”
The Chargers had a meet at Windsor High School on December 10 and will travel to Nandua High School on Wednesday, December 18, for a 4 p.m. meet.
