Rappahannock Community College (RCC) has announced its 50th anniversary celebrations across the service region.
On January 9, 1970, the local board of the newly-formed Rappahannock Community College met for the first time to chart the future course of the only institution for higher education in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. In 2020, RCC will commemorate this meeting with events celebrating the past, present, and future of the college.
A ceremony acknowledging this first board meeting will take place in Urbanna in the morning. In the afternoon there will be campus-wide celebrations.
On Saturday, January 11, 2020, from 1 to 4 p.m. the community is invited to an open house celebration at the Glenns Campus. Festivities kick off with a short program beginning at 1:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be the Honorable R. Michael “Mike” McKenney, a 1982 graduate of RCC. Faculty, staff, past presidents, and alumni will be recognized.
A free trolley will leave from the Warsaw Campus at noon and 1 p.m. to take people to the Glenns Campus on a first-come, first-served basis, with return trips leaving Glenns at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Tours of the Glenns Campus will include interactive demos and exhibits, and presentations conducted by RCC faculty. Nursing simulations and history re-enactments are just a few of the day’s events. Other highlights will include a scavenger hunt with the grand prize of a scholarship donated by the RCC Educational Foundation.
