JV Lady Chargers open season with win

JV Lady Charger Kaylynn Darnell caps a Middlesex steal with a layup in Monday’s 38-12 win over Essex.

The Middlesex JV Lady Chargers basketball team showed its defensive talent as it opened the season with a 38-12 win over visiting Essex on December 2. The score was tied 4-4 midway through the first quarter before Middlesex scored the last 6 points for a 10-4 lead after one quarter.

In a defensive second quarter, Middlesex held Essex scoreless and had a 14-4 lead at the half.

Middlesex outscored Essex 14-6 in the third quarter to take a 28-10 lead going into the final quarter when they outscored Essex 10-2 to secure the 38-12 win.

For Middlesex, Chelsea Holmes had 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals; Kaylynn Darnell, 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals; Triniti Muse, 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal; Javonya Chandler, 4 points, 3 steals; Kaydence Congleton, 2 points, 10 rebounds; Kendall Lucas, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals; Skylar Landon, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal; Autumn Jackson, 2 points, 1 rebound; Sydney Rader, 4 rebounds; Geriyah Cooke, 3 rebounds, 1 steal; and Stacey Butler, 1 steal.

The MHS varsity and JV girls basketball teams are at Lancaster on Thursday, December 5, and at Essex on Monday, December 9. The next home game is Tuesday, December 10, against King William. On December 12, Middlesex is at Northumberland.

The JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity plays at 7 p.m.
