Seahorses football visits Blue Ridge in state semifinals Saturday

The Christchurch School (CCS) Seahorses failed to knock off number one North Cross on its home field in Roanoke last Saturday, and will travel to Blue Ridge for the VISAA Football State Semifinals this Saturday, November 9.

Their 6-2 record and number 3 ranking in the state is a strong statement for the Seahorses, which won just one game in their 2018 rebuilding campaign. Senior co-captain Blake Ryder (Hampton) is finishing his third season as the team’s center and defensive tackle. Together with third year co-captain Barron Cohen (Fredericksburg), Ryder has been a key figure in a strong offensive and defensive line. Ryder and Cohen drew high praise from head coach Ed Homer. “I am very proud of my two third-year leaders. They have invested much time and effort into our team over these three years. I am glad that they get to return to the playoffs in their senior year.”

The Seahorses kick off in St. George this Saturday at 2 p.m., and will try to pay the Blue Ridge Barons back for an early-season loss.
