From 7:30-9 p.m. on Friday, November 8, Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) at 221 Marston Ave. will host the “Chris Brydge/Michael McNeill Duo.”
Bassist Chris Brydge returns to UUMC to present a concert of his own original music, in an intimate duo format with pianist and UUMC Music Director Michael McNeill. Brydge is frequently heard supporting musicians throughout the Tidewater Region of Virginia with groups ranging from the Virginia Symphony to the ambitious jazz of the “Eddie Williams Trio.” This will be a rare opportunity to hear a complete program of Brydge’s original music.
“Chris and I have played his tunes for the last year or two in Portsmouth and Richmond,” says McNeill, “but usually sprinkled in among jazz standards. I’m thrilled to present him in a program that focuses on his music, which has impressed me with its rich harmony, its lyricism, and its possibilities for improvisation. We’ve been working hard on our duo approach for the last few months, and I’m excited to share what we’ve prepared with our Urbanna audience.”
In lieu of admission, a freewill offering will be taken to support the musicians ($10-20 suggested).
