Jessie, Bushey, Hurd, Burke, Thrift elected
There will be two new members of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors beginning in 2020.
For the Harmony Village District seat on the board, challenger Reginald Williams Sr. defeated incumbent Kathy Swinehart in Tuesday’s elections. Williams received 449 votes (55.36%) and Swinehart received 360 votes (44.39%).
For the Pinetop District seat on the board, challenger Lud Kimbrough III defeated incumbent M.E. “Chip” Holt III. Kimbrough received 691 votes (63.05%) compared to 401 (36.59%) for Holt.
For the Jamaica District seat on the board, incumbent Wayne Jessie received 602 votes (73.41%) compared to 216 votes (26.34%) for Elizabeth Whitaker.
Incumbent David Bushey won the sheriff’s election with 2,939 votes (64.69%) compared to 1,598 (35.17%) for challenger Blair Sibley.
Incumbent Michael Hurd won the commonwealth’s attorney election with 2,497 votes (55.28%) compared to 2,007 (44.43%) for David Eberline.
E. Mae Burke received 2,814 votes (64.03%) and was elected commissioner of the revenue. Jon Farinholt received 1,574 votes (35.81%). Current commissioner Bonnie Davenport did not seek re-election.
Kathy Thrift ran unopposed for the office of treasurer and received 4,161 votes (99.33%). Current treasurer Betty Bray did not seek re-election.
Republican Keith Hodges was re-elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in the 98th District. In Middlesex, Hodges received 3,167 votes (69.28%) compared to 1,402 votes (30.67%) for Democrat Elizabeth Webster.
Ryan McDougle was re-elected to the 4th District seat in the Virginia State Senate. In Middlesex, McDougle received 2,978 votes (65.58%) compared to 1,561 (34.38%) for Democrat Stanton Scott.
Running unopposed for the Middlesex School Board, incumbents Claudia Soucek, Elliott Reed and Garland Harrow were all re-elected.
Running unopposed for Soil and Water Conservation Director from the Tidewater District, Jason Bray and Alan Sutherlin were elected.
