Atlantic Shores shuts down Chargers

Atlantic Shores Christian School (ASCS) from Chesapeake blanked the Middlesex Chargers Friday night 29-0.

The ASCS offense put together 303 total yards to 141 for the Chargers. Atlantic Shores had 129 yards passing to Middlesex’s 73 yards.

Charger quarterback Adam Smith completed 6 passes for 55 yards and rushed for 53 yards on 16 carries.

Matt Hart passed for 18 yards on 3 completions. The ASCS defense shut Hart’s running game down, holding him to a minus 4 yards on the ground on 5 carries. Bryan Diggs rushed for 19 yards on 5 carries.     

Cassidy Ward caught 2 passes for 31 yards; Brandon Ward hauled in 2 passes for 14 yards; Smith had one catch for 7 yards; M. Hart had one catch for 5 five yards; and Mike Barney caught a pass for 5 yards.

Smith, Austin Lundy, Diggs, Cole Ruark and Troy Moncrieff paced the defense as each player contributed a solo tackle for the Chargers.

Near the end of the third quarter, the Chargers got close enough to the end zone for a field goal attempt. Aaron Akers missed from 35 yards out.

M. Hart had 5 kick-off returns for a total of 68 yards, averaging 13.6 yards a carry. Hart also punted the ball 4 times for 122 yards, an average of 30.5 yards a kick.

ASCS scored twice in the first quarter on a 27-yard pass and on a 9-yard run. During the second quarter, ASCS scored on a 24-yard run, and scored again in the third quarter on a 1-yard run.        

The Chargers (5-3) traveled to King and Queen Wednesday, October 30, to take on the Royal Tigers at 7 p.m. The change in game date is due to the Urbanna Oyster Festival.
