NAACP election forum is Thursday

The Middlesex NAACP will hold a candidate forum Thursday, October 24, at St. Clare Walker Middle School on Route 33 in Locust Hill. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the forum begins at 6 p.m.

As of Tuesday, most candidates for county offices have committed to speak at the forum, said coordinator Hallie Holmes. However, incumbent Sheriff David Bushey will not be in attendance due to a previous commitment at Middlesex Elementary School, she said.

Middlesex Sheriff candidate Blair Sibley will attend the forum, said Holmes.

Other candidates for county offices who have replied that they will attend include Commissioner of the Revenue candidates E. Mae Burke and Jon Farinholt; and Middlesex Commonwealth’s Attorney candidates Michael T. Hurd and David Eberline.

Three seats on the Middlesex Board of Supervisors will be contested in this election. Those board of supervisors candidates who will be in attendance include Harmony Village candidates Kathy Swinehart and Reginald Williams Sr.; Jamaica District candidates Wayne Jessie and Elizabeth Whitaker; and Pinetop District candidates Chip Holt and Lud Kimbrough.

A candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates for the 98th District, Dr. Ella Webster-Gloucester, will attend. Incumbent Keith Hodges will not be attending, said Holmes.

A candidate for the Virginia State Senate Fourth District, R. Stan Scott, will be there. As of Tuesday, incumbent Ryan McDougle had not responded to the NAACP email invitation, said Holmes.
