Why do we love music?
Plato said, “Music gives wings to the mind, charm and gaiety to life.”
Yes, but why? That will be examined at the open-to-all meeting of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 27, at 366 James Wharf Road, White Stone.
David Dustin, a UUFR musician and social activist, will explain that infants in the womb are very aware of their mothers’ heartbeats, and the averaged heartbeat tempo of the infant and mother is within the 80 to 120 beats per minute people love. Scientific research shows the optimal tempo of human activity is very similar to the musical tempo that humans prefer! Dustin also will explore the appeal of certain types of music, and how musicians use musical notes and chords to affect emotions.
