Members of the quartet include, from left, Peggy Watson (violin) and Beth Austin (viola) from Newport News, Valerie DeBrava (violin) from Gloucester, and Nina Buzby (cello) from Mathews.

A program titled “Dancing Strings” will be presented by a string quartet from the local “Strings & Things” network of musicians on Sunday, October 27, at 5 p.m. The performance will be held at Urbanna Baptist Church and is open to the public.

The program will include a range of dance music from Baroque, to Ballet, to Boogie, to BeBop and Beyond. Dance styles through the ages will be highlighted.

Musical pieces will range from early music styles, to music for entertainment, ballroom dance music and group dance music.

Strings & Things is a network of between 20 and 25 professionally trained musicians in coastal and central Virginia. Members typically play for weddings, receptions, parties, and performances in duet, trio, or quartet combinations. The membership represents a variety of instrumentation, including violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, and keyboard.
